UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award
As part of the global dimension we seek at Haydon School we are currently working on becoming a Rights Respecting School and have joined the RRSA programme from UNICEF. We have currently achieved Recognition of Commitment and we are making our way through the next step called Level 1. The Unicef UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) supports schools across the UK to embed children’s human rights in their ethos and culture. The award recognises achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of a school’s practice to improve well-being and help all children realise their potential. The award is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. Haydon School is working to become a Rights Respecting School because: - resonates with Haydon’s ethos and will be affirmed by our involvement - the RRSA offers a vision and values base - developing the RSSA will enable a unification of Haydon’s existing values, policies and principles - to improve behaviour and relationships Taking part in this project we want our students to explore their own values and their wider social knowledge of people and citizenship. They should challenge their own and others' perspectives and stereotypes considering respect in relation to global knowledge. The impact on school will make young students to be positive towards diversity in society, the reduction of prejudice and support for global justice.
