Homework
At Haydon, we believe homework is a vital aspect of pupils’ learning and helps them make further progress. Feedback on homework may take the form of class discussion, peer, self or staff assessment.
All homework is set on Satchel One (previously known as Show My Homework) and is accessible to parents/carers on any Internet device.
Students have access to old homework for the academic year they are in. There is a handy search facility to help with this process
- Pupils in years 7 & 8 will be set approximately 30 minutes per subject per week
(English, Maths and Science homework will be approximately 30-60 minutes per week. - Pupils in year 9 will be set approximately 45 minutes per subject per week.
- Pupils in years 10 & 11 will be set approximately 60-90 minutes per subject per week.
- Pupils in years 12 & 13 will be set approximately 5 hours per subject per week.
In addition to formal homework, pupils should be encouraged to complete independent study, particularly from year 10 to 13. This could involve accessing additional resources, making their own notes on a topic, finishing projects, writing up experiments and revision of topics.
Sometimes students will be set larger pieces of work, perhaps once a fortnight, or longer projects that are to be completed over a period of several weeks. In these circumstances, teachers are to check student progress in completing these at regular intervals.
Failure to complete homework will lead to an imposition of up to 30 minutes on the day. If pupils need help with homework, they are encouraged to see their class teacher as soon as possible. Staff emails are available on the school website (Staff Email List).
